Cloverfield

starring Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, T.J. Miller, Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, Odette Yustman, Anjul Nigam, Margot Farley, Theo Rossi, Brian Klugman, Kelvin Yu, Liza Lapira, Lili Mirojnick, Ben Feldman, and Elena Caruso. It was about a monster that was trashing Manhattan as seen through the eyes of a cam corder.
The acting was pretty decent.  The special effects were pretty good.  It was an unusual format that took a little getting used to.  On a scale of 1-5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 3 1/2 to 4, slightly above average.

Pineapple Express

Starred Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny R. McBride, Kevin Corrigan, Craig Robinson, Gary Cole, Rosie Perez, Ed Begley Jr., Nora Dunn, Amber Heard, Joe Lo Truglio, Arthur Napiontek, Cleo King, Bill Hader, and James Remar. About a couple of stoners on the run from some criminals because one of them witnessed a murder.
The acting was mediocre at best.  The writing barely adequate.  The special effects were nothing to write home about.  There was some action and a few humorous scenes.  In my opinion on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent this movie rated a 2 1/2 to 3.  The low end of average.

Babylon A.D.

Starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Mélanie Thierry, Gérard Depardieu, Charlotte Rampling, Mark Strong, Lambert Wilson,  Jérôme Le Banner, Joel Kirby, Souleymane Dicko, David Belle,  Radek Bruna, Jan Unger, Abraham Belaga, and Gary Cowan. It was a futirustic world that a mercenary had be hired to get the job done.  The bad guys did not bank on the merc having honor.
The acting was pretty good.  I thought the special effects were very well done.  There was a lot of action but not a lot of suspense.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rated a 3 1/2 to 4, above average.

Without a Paddle

Starring  Matthew Price, Andrew Hampton, Jarred Rumbold,  Carl Snell, Antony Starr, Dax Shepard, Matthew Lillard, Seth Green, Nadine Bernecker, Danielle Cormack, David Stott,  Bonnie Somerville, Scott Adsit, Morgan Reese Fairhead, and  Liddy Holloway.  It was about a couple of friends going into the deep woods to look for a missing girl.
The acting was ok. The writing was fair.  there was some action and it was mildly amusing.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent I feel this movie rates a solid 3, average.

City of Ember

This movie starred David Ryall, Ian McElhinney, Harry Treadaway, Tim Robbins, Bill Murray, B.J. Hogg, Toby Jones,  Lucinda Dryzek, Matt Jessup, Lara McIvor, Myles Thompson,  Eoin McAndrew, Rachel Morton, Conor MacNeill, and Lorraine Hilton. It was about a city built completely underground and the attempt by 3 to make it out.
The acting was decent.  The special effects were pretty good. The writing was not bad.  It was long in spots but did have some action.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rated a 3 - 3 1/2.  about average.

Lakeview Terrace

Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Patrick Wilson, Kerry Washington, Ron Glass, Justin Chambers, Jay Hernandez, Regine Nehy,  Jaishon Fisher, Robert Pine, Keith Loneker, Caleeb Pinkett,  Robert Dahey, Ho-Jung, Bitsie Tulloch, and Michael Sean Tighe. It was about the neighbor from hell that also happens to be a L.A. police officer.
The acting was good. The writing while decent made the movie a little long in parts.  Overall not a bad movie.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 3 - 3 1/2.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

With the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer,  Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, Bernie Mac, Alec Baldwin, Sherri Shepherd, Will i Am, Elisa Gabrielli, Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, and Christopher Knights. It was an animated film about some animals that escape New York and head to Africa.
The animation was well done.  The writing only fair I thought it was somewhat boring.  The ending however was decent.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a solid 3, average.

American Wedding

Starring Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Thomas Ian Nicholas, January Jones,   Eugene Levy, Molly Cheek, Deborah Rush, Fred Willard, Harold Flaherty, Angela Paton, Eric Allan Kramer, Amanda Swisten,  Nikki Schieler Ziering, and Lawrence Pressman. Another in the American pie series about a wedding.
The acting was great.  It had the same nasty raw humor we all love from the American Pie Movies. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent In my opinion this movie rates a solid 4, well above average.

Watchmen

Starring Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson , Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer, Stephen McHattie, Laura Mennell, Rob LaBelle, Gary Houston, James M. Connor, Mary Ann Burger,  and John Shaw. Was about a team of superheros that came out of retirement.
The special effects were very good and in my opinion probably the only decent feature of this movie.  The acting was only fair.  The plot was so so.  The writing was abysmal.  I know this movie is popular but in my opinion on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent this movie only rates a solid 2, below average.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Starred Drew Barrymore, Piper Perabo, Andy Garcia, (voice)

Alex Mendoza (voice).  It was about a spoiled upper crust Chihuahua that got lost and had some adventures.
The acting was well done.  I thought the writing was extremely well done.  Once again Disney comes through.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my view this movie rates a 4 - 4 1/2. Substanially above average.

The Day the earth Stood Still

It was about an alien that came to earth to save it.
The acting was good.  The special effects I felt were substandard, they did not look very real to me.  The writing was a little below par.  I did not find it overly believable.  Assuming this did happen some aspects of it did not make sense.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent I rate this movie a 2 - 2 1/2, below average.

Quantum of Solace

Starring Daniel Craig, Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric, Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, Gemma Arterton, Jeffrey Wright,   David Harbour, Jesper Christensen, Anatole Taubman, Rory Kinnear, Tim Pigott-Smith, Joaquín Cosio, Fernando Guillén Cuervo, and Jesús Ochoa.  Another in the series of James Bond movies.
I am not a real fan of Daniel Craig as James Bond.  Having said that the acting was ok.  The special effects were awesome, the plot decent.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a solid 3, average.  There was plenty of action but some long parts as well.

Starring Adam Sandler, Keri Russell, Guy Pearce, Russell Brand, Richard Griffiths, Teresa Palmer, Lucy Lawless,  Courteney Cox, Jonathan Morgan Heit, Laura Ann Kesling,  Jonathan Pryce, Nick Swardson, Kathryn Joosten, Allen Covert, amd Carmen Electra. It was about a man telling some kids some bedtime stories and they may come true.
It was a cute movie but thats to be expected of Disney films. The acting was decent.  It was fairly well written with a good ending sequence.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rated a 3 1/2 - 4, above average.

Elizabeth Reaser.  It's about a romance between a vampire and a mortal and some of the difficulties that arise.
It was not what I expected though not sure what I did expect.  The acting was good, the special effects were well done.  Parts of it were slow.  There was some action and the writing was adequate.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 3 - 3 1/2, the high end of average.

Bride Wars

Star Trek

Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Ben Cross, Winona Ryder, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Morrison, and Rachel Nichols. Not exactly a sequel more like an alternative prequel to the original Star Trek.
The acting I thought very good.  They captured the essence of the original characters.  Per usual in Star Trek the special effects were awesome.  The writing was pretty decent and there were plenty of action scenes.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rated a 4 - 4 1/2 substantially above average.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Starring Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Hank Azaria,  Robin Williams, Christopher Guest, Alain Chabat, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Bill Hader, Jon Bernthal, Patrick Gallagher , Jake Cherry, Rami Malek, and Mizuo Peck. The sequel to the movie about museum displays that come to life.

Paul Blart Mall Cop

Starring Kevin James, Keir O'Donnell, Jayma Mays, Raini Rodriguez, Shirley Knight, Stephen Rannazzisi, Peter Gerety,  Bobby Cannavale, Adam Ferrara, Jamal Mixon, Adhir Kalyan,  Erick Avari, Gary Valentine, Allen Covert, and Mike Vallely. It was about a mall security guard that was put into a situation he was ill prepared for.
The acting was very good.  The special effects were well done.  It was somewhat amusing with plenty of action.  I felt it was well written.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 4 to 4 1/2, above average.

Attack of the Sabertooth

Starring Robert Carradine, Nicholas Bel, Brian Wimmer, Stacy Haiduk, Rawiri Paratene, Susanne Sutchy Cleopatra Coleman,  Amanda Stephens, Natalie Avital, Billy Aaron Brown, Parry Shen, Nathaniel Kiwi and Bonnie Piesse. It was about an island where somebody cloned sabertooth tigers (sound familiar?).
Well I picked it up at the $3.99 table at blockbuster and the free market system works I got what I paid for.  The acting was abysmal.  The special effect were horrendous.  There was some cleavage abd plenty of gore.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent I rate this movie a 1 - 1 1/2, poor.

Predator Island

Starring Dan Gordon, Hank Torrance, Libby Krall, Tom Dahl,  Ilana Becker, Michael Wrann, Kevin McCauley, and Sean Gallimore.  It was about some alien predators that came to earth in metors.
The acting was substandard.  The special effects were horrendous.  I would imagine the entire budget for this movie was probably mid 3 figures.  One saving grace is it was short, 75 minutes.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a solid 1 1/2, poor.  The only reason it was not a solid 1 was there was 1 lesbian scene in it.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Gambon, Dave Legeno,    Elarica Gallagher, Jim Broadbent, Geraldine Somerville, Bonnie Wright, Julie Walters, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson,    Helena Bonham Carter, Helen McCrory, Timothy Spall, Alan Rickman, and Oliver Phelps.  The next installment of the Harry Potter movies.
Like the other Potter movies it was long and somewhat dragged out with some intense action scenes mixed in.   The special effects were awesome the writing fairly decent. The acting was well done.  In my opinion on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent this movie rates a 3 1/2 to 4, above average.

Like the first movie it was non stop action from beginning to end.  The special effects were awesome.  A 150 minutes of non stop action.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 4 - 4 1/2.  Well above average.

Obsessed

Last House on the Left

Razortooth

Starring Sarah Habel, Ellen Page, Shannon Eagen, Marcia Gay Harden, Edward Austin Austin, Mary Callaghan Lynch, Alia Shawkat, Barbara Coven, Eulala Scheel, Nina Kircher, Daniel Stern, Mark Boyd, Carlo Alban, Doug Minckiewicz, and Michael Petrillo.  It was about a young girl that was sort of a misfit entering the world of roller derby.
The acting was good.  The story line did unfold well.  However it was kind of predictable.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this story rates a 3 1/2 - 4, above average.

G Force

Starring Bill Nighy, Sam Rockwell, Will Arnett, Jon Favreau,  Zach Galifianakis, Nicolas Cage, Kelli Garner, Penélope Cruz,  Tyler Patrick Jones,  Steve Buscemi, Piper Mackenzie Harris,  Gabriel Casseus, Tracy Morgan, Jack Conley, Niecy Nash,  Justin Mentell, Loudon Wainwright III, and Chris Ellis. It was about some FBI operatives that happened to be Guinea pigs.
The acting was ok.  The writing was fair.  However there was nothing special about the special effects.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 3 - 3 1/2, average.

Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

Starring Jesse Metcalfe, Amber Tamblyn, Michael Douglas,  Joel Moore, Orlando Jones, Lawrence P. Beron, Sewell Whitney, David Jensen, Sharon London, Krystal Kofie, Randal Reeder, Ryan Glorioso, Jon McCarthy, Grant James, and Eric Gipson. It was about a D.A. that was just another sleazy politician.
The acting was good.  It was well written with an interesting twist at the end. The special effects were quite believable. On a scale of 1 to 5 with one being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a solid 4, above average.

American Pie: Book of Love

Starring Bug Hall, Kevin M. Horton, Brandon Hardesty, Melanie Papalia, Beth Behrs, John Patrick Jordan, Jennifer Holland,  Cindy Busby, Naomi Hewer, Eugene Levy, Louisa Lytton,  Rosanna Arquette, Curtis Armstrong , Edwin Perez, Nico McEown, Karin Konoval, Carrie Keagan, Meghan Feenstra,  Dwight Koss, Jennifer-Juniper Angeli, Sherman Hemsley, Jill Teed, and Adrienne Carter.  Another in the series of American Pie Movies.
The acting was fair.  In my opinion the writing was substandard. Out of all the American Pie Movies and I have watched many of them this was my least favoriite.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 2 - 2 1/2, below average.

Couples Retreat

Starring Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, Kali Hawk,  Tasha Smith, Carlos Ponce, Peter Serafinowicz, Jean Reno,  Temuera Morrison, Jonna Walsh, Gattlin Griffith, and Colin Baiocchi.  It was about 4 couples that went on a week long retreat.
The acting was ok.  In my view it was poorly written not even a great ending.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 2 - 2 1/2, below average.

Zombieland

Starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone,  Abigail Breslin, Amber Heard, Bill Murray, and Derek Graf. The whole population turned into cannabalistic zombies with only a few human survivors.
The acting was decent.  The special effects were passable.  However the writing did not appear to be it's strong suit.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion the movie rated a 3 - 3 1/2, average.  

WARNING There was a lot of gore so if thats a problem you may want to give this movie a pass.

Whiteout

Starring Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Macht, Tom Skerritt, Columbus Short, Alex O'Loughlin, Shawn Doyle, Joel S. Keller,  Jesse Todd, Arthur Holden, Erin Hickock, Bashar Rahal, and  Julian Cain. It was about a U.S. Marshal trying to solve a murder in an Antarctica research station.
The special effects were well done.  The acting was decent.  While there was plenty of action it was somewhat predictable.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 3 - 3 1/2, the high side of average.

Starring Luke Wilson, Gretchen Mol, David Koechner, Sasha Alexander, Bob Gunton, Rosemarie DeWitt, Michael Cudlitz,  William Bogert, Andrew Daly, Ellen Tobie, Zach Selwyn, Hilary Pingle, Nathan Pham, Van Hughes, and Lily Holleman.  It was about a small college professor that was attempting to get tenure.
The acting was fair.  It was poorly written and somewhat dull.  I should have known better than to rent a Luke Wilson movie.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rated a 2 - 2 1/2, below average.

Starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Thomas McCarthy, Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover, Liam James,  Morgan Lily, Zlatko Buric, Beatrice Rosen,  Alexandre Haussmann, Philippe Haussmann, Johann Urb, John Billingsley, Chin Han, Osric Chau, Chang Tseng, Lisa Lu, Blu Mankuma, abd George Segal.  It was an end of days movie based on the misconception that the Mayan calendar predicts it.
The acting was good.  The special effects were awesome.  There was plenty of action and at times was a nail biter.  On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being poor and 5 excellent in my opinion this movie rates a 3 1/2 to 4, above average
